This post like the first ten will come from the perspective that JESUS is God’s son….God himself and that the whole bible (old and new) is full of God’s words, not man’s and therefore we can trust that GOD made sure that we had one book that is a completely reliable source of information for us to have faith in and live by.
The other day someone I am close to brought up the fact that they knew of a person that believes we are still under the Old Covenant laws. They say we are still under the Old Covenant laws, even though we are under a New Covenant. It’s more like they believe instead of it being an actual New Covenant, it is just a renewed covenant. They believe that if we love GOD we would strive to obey ALL the laws of the Old Covenant (meaning all the laws given to Moses) because that is really what GOD is expecting us to do. They say GOD never changes so therefore HIS laws and ways wouldn’t change, yet, they acknowledge that GOD sent JESUS and because of JESUS we don’t have to make sacrifices. Well, guess what, that means GOD did make a change to HIS laws.
I have to say that I completely disagree with that line of thinking. Of course I still respect these people, and I understand we are all at different places in our relationship with HIM and understanding of HIS word!! I have no idea why two people who love the LORD and who are very sincere in their pursuit of HIM, and HIS truth can come to very different conclusions, but it happens all the time!! I pray as always, that if I am wrong, HE will correct me, that I would listen to HIM and submit!!!
I believe with my whole being that as a child of GOD through JESUS HIS SON, I am under a NEW Covenant, and the NEW brought change. You see with JESUS and the Holy Spirit, revelations that are given through out what we call the New Testament, and it is explained clearly to us that things have changed. Here are just a few changes: 1. we do NOT have to make any type of physical blood sacrifices, 2.or grain offerings, etc. 3. or go through any type of cleansing rituals (ex. when we are unclean from sin or a physical sickness, etc.,)4. or have a priest go to GOD for us, 5. we can go to GOD ourselves because of JESUS, 6. matter of fact there is no longer a need for a human priest. 7. A sickness, or imperfection in our physical body does not make us unfit to go into GOD’s presence. 8. We are no longer expected to kill a child (no matter the age) that is disobedient or kill someone who breaks the Sabbath law, or is a homosexual, etc. 9. There is no distinction to GOD between Jew, Gentile, man, woman, etc., we are all one in CHRIST. 10. I do not have to bind GOD’s word (scripture) as a sign on my hand or as frontlets between my eyes, because HIS word has been written on my heart by HIS HOLY SPIRIT. Now how about that for CHANGES! When you take out everything that has to do with a sacrifice and a priest, it will knock out the majority of the laws that were given to Moses. Therefore it’s just NOT true when you hear someone say we are still supposed to obey ALL the laws that were given to Moses and that nothing changed even though GOD brought us under a NEW Covenant!!!
What makes it a NEW covenant and how do we know that changes have been made going from the Old to the New Covenant ?
With a little more details and scripture we will answer those two questions. I believe the most vital and amazing change is that GOD has written HIMSELF (who HE is, what HIS will is) upon our hearts by HIS HOLY SPIRIT. Under the NEW Covenant we are privileged to have an intimate, alive, real RELATIONSHIP with GOD (the FATHER, the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT)!! We are welcome into HIS presence anytime, anywhere! We do not have to make sacrifices, offerings and go through purification rituals to be acceptable to GOD. We are made acceptable and have access to GOD because of JESUS. We aren’t destined to never enter the Holy of Holies (GOD’s presence), but we are destined to be up close and personal with GOD!! Isn’t that amazing, isn’t it almost more than we can comprehend! The CREATOR of everything wants a relationship with us, HE doesn’t just allow us in, HE welcomes us into HIS presence. I don’t know about you but this New Covenant sounds so much better than the one they had before JESUS!! It’s supposed to look and sound better, that was exactly GOD’s purpose for giving the NEW COVENANT!!
But now HE (CHRIST) has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as HE is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. Hebrews 8:6
For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.
8For finding fault with them, He says, “BEHOLD, DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE LORD, WHEN I WILL EFFECT A NEW COVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH;
13When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.~~Hebrew 8:7-13
11 Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron? 12For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also. 13 For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord [f]was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests. 15 And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become such not on the basis of a law of [g]physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is attested of Him,“YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.”18For, on the one hand, there is a setting aside of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness19 (for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. 20 And inasmuch as it was not without an oath 21(for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,“THE LORD HAS SWORN AND WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND, ‘YOU ARE A PRIESTFOREVER’”);22 so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.23[h]The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, 24but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. 25 Therefore He is able also to save [i]forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appointsa Son,made perfect forever.~~~Hebrew 7
“Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a NEW covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD. 33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the LORD, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the LORD, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jer. 31:34
In the above scriptures we see that GOD said HE would bring a NEW Covenant (which was mentioned in what we call the Old testament of the Bible), Then in what we call the New Testament of the bible we see that it says with a new priest there is a change in the law, it speaks of a getting rid of old commandments because of weakness, if the first did the job we wouldn’t have needed a new one, the old/first one is obsolete, and that the ‘new’ is better!!I have no ill feelings toward anyone who choses to try to observe as much as they can the laws of the Old Covenant. I have said before that if someone wants to observe the feast and festivals and the traditional jewish customs that are associated with them, than I hope they do so and are blessed in it. If someone feels that they should go to church on Saturday, to call Saturday their Sabbath, or to even observe traditional Jewish Sabbath customs on that day, than I hope they do so and are blessed in it. Though the idea that anyone is actually obeying GOD today, when they observe the Feast and Festivals, just doesn’t ring true. If someone were going to really obey GOD in these matters, they would have to obey what scripture says not what Jewish tradition says. That means they would have to have a priest in their midst, perform sacrifices and not mention JESUS but only mention what GOD did for HIS people when HE brought them out of Egypt. This just shows us again, that no matter how much we want to obey GOD, it is impossible to perfectly obey HIM, no matter what laws or covenant you feel you were to live by and under. We need JESUS, and we need HIS blood to do in us what GOD says in HIS word HE and IT will do in, through, and for us!!! I pray that no matter how our day-to-day faith plays out, that if we belong to CHRIST, we will remember we are all united in CHRIST, and so we will choose to walk in HIS love and grace with each other!!
