All my life I have been taught, I have read and understood that as a believer in Jesus Christ, God’s son and God himself that I am living under what is called the NEW Covenant. Therefore being under the New Covenant meant that some things in the old covenant still held true for us today but some things had changed. So is that true? Are we under a new covenant that did bring changes?
This post like the first two will come from the perspective (belief) that JESUS is God’s son and God himself and that the whole bible (old and new) is full of God’s words, not man’s and therefore we can trust that GOD made sure that we had one book that is a completely reliable source of information for us to have faith in and live by.
Before I write my own words for this post I want to encourage you to read an article I recently came across: New or Renewed Covenant
2 “[c]But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
[d]His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity.”
3 Therefore He will give them up until the time
When she who is in labor has borne a child.
Then the remainder of His brethren
Will return to the sons of Israel.
4 And He will arise and shepherd His flock
In the strength of the LORD,
In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God.
And they will [e]remain,
Because [f]at that time He will be great
To the ends of the earth.
5 This One will be our peace. ~~Micah 5
These words were spoken about JESUS long before HE came to earth. Long before we were actually in the New Covenant these words were spoken (through GOD), and this shows me that from forever ago GOD had made plans for the NEW, HE had always planned that the NEW would be better than the OLD. That doesn’t take away from the fact that the OLD had beauty, and a purpose but when the NEW came and it held within its terms the “once and for all” purpose and because of that it is even more beautiful than the OLD.
For right now I would like to link you to a couple of articles that speak on the OT Prophecies that JESUS did fulfil. I will not take the time to put together my own list because to many other people have already done the work, and I and many others get to reap the benefit. (*I am not saying I agree with everything written by these authors or on the websites, I am only promoting the articles I have linked below)
3. Messianic Prophecies @ Bible Encyclopedia
You see it is clear that JESUS is the way that GOD the FATHER ushered in the NEW Covenant. JESUS is the MESSIAH or ‘annoited one’ that OT spoke of for so long, and whom the people of GOD hoped and longed for. They looked to HIS coming as their salvation!
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts. ~~Isaiah 55
GOD has his reasons for not giving what we call the NEW first. HE chose to give us what we call the OLD first, let us know a NEW would be coming and then to confirm the NEW with the words we see in what we call the NT of the bible. When you ponder the above scripture in Isaiah 55, you can rest in the fact that GOD has HIS ways, reasons, and methods that we are not always going to understand. That is o.k., it is not needed that we understand it all, just that we have TRUST in HIM, and in HIS words (OT & NT) are true. Sometimes I think by us trying to figure it all out in our own mind, we are doing GOD a disservice; HE is GOD, HE can do anything HE wants, anyway HE wants, HE is not limited like we are and HE does not need us to be able to understand it all for what HE says to be true. Why even stress yourself out trying to figure it all out in your limited human mind, if you trust that the bible (OT and NT) is HIS words, and because it was given and inspired by HIM, there is NO error, than just rest in the promise and salvation HE has shown us, revealed to us and given to us from the very beginning.
20 Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep [a]through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13
JESUS; GOD’s Son, GOD made flesh………GOD gave HIM; the Old testament pointed to HIM, the New Testament made HIM perfectly known and through HIM we walk with GOD in the NEW COVENANT and GOD’s spirit testifies to our spirit that we are HIS!!
