Blogging through the Gospels: Day 11~~How can we obey and please God?

I am participating in the new bible reading plan by Moms Tool Box, it is called Reading through the gospels. I am participating so that I can be with the Lord and so He will show me ALL about His SON. I love digging in and prayerfully examining His words, thoughts and intents, that is why I will be using the SOAP devotion study tool as I read through the gospels.

Thursday, April 14th~~Day 11: Matthew 12

S= Scripture:

 7“But if you had known what this means, ‘(F)I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.

O= Observation:

When I read this verse it reminded me of something I had recently read in Isaiah. Here in Isaiah 1, God has literally had enough of empty rituals, even when they were commanded by him. God is after our heart, our actions might be right, we may be following his specific commands but if our heart isn’t right than our actions are empty, useless, void and unpleasing to the Lord.

10Hear (Y)the word of the LORD,
You rulers of (Z)Sodom;
Give ear to the instruction of our God,
You people of Gomorrah.
11(AA)What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?”
Says the LORD.
“I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
And the fat of fed cattle;
And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs or goats.
12“When you come (AB)to appear before Me,
Who requires of you this trampling of My courts?
13“Bring your worthless offerings no longer,
(AC)Incense is an abomination to Me
(AD)New moon and sabbath, the (AE)calling of assemblies–
I cannot (AF)endure iniquity and the solemn assembly.
14“I hate your new moon festivals and your (AG)appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me;
I am (AH)weary of bearing them.
15“So when you (AI)spread out your hands in prayer,
(AJ)I will hide My eyes from you;
Yes, even though you (AK)multiply prayers,
I will not listen
(AL)Your hands are covered with blood.
16(AM)Wash yourselves, (AN)make yourselves clean;
(AO)Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight
(AP)Cease to do evil,
17Learn to do good;
(AQ)Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
(AR)Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.

A= Application:

This is how we can obey and please God; walk in his love so that you can feel and offer compassion.

P= Prayer:

Oh, Lord again I ask, let me love as you love, see as you see, feel as you feel and live as your son Jesus lived and taught.

Reflection:

Matthew 22:
36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
 37And He said to him, ” ‘(AC)YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’
 38“This is the great and foremost commandment.
 39“The second is like it, ‘(AD)YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’
 40(AE)On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
