Weekly Wrap-Up

Monday: Sick Day~~~ both my boys and I were under the weather. In the afternoon I had to go and check on our new chicks and I found an Eastern King Snake in a laying box with an egg in his mouth. I went down to the house told the boys and of course they wanted to see it. I told them lets give it a little while so he will have that egg in really good so that it wouldn’t be able to bite me when I picked it up BUT when we went up I found out I gave it too much time because he had that egg all the way in and had started on a second egg. I took a couple of pictures of it laying there. I put my gloves on because I can’t stand the way they feel and I reached down and picked him up. We snapped another picture or two and then I carried him towards the back of our pasture. Half way there one egg came out and he turned his head and it seemed he tried to strike. I put my fingers right over his mouth holding it shut and starting walking even faster. He was wrapping his back-end around my arm and I was like “ooohhh, oooohhh I can’t stand that”. My oldest said “Mom, your acting like a girl” and I said “I am a girl” =) We got to the back of the pasture and I put him over the fence being pretty sure that we will see him again.

Tuesday: was a difficult and very long school day BUT we did get a full day done. We worked on our astronomy study, Math, Reading practice and lesson, copy work (handwriting practice), Grammer and spelling practice for my oldest by writing a pen pal letter, reading from Paddle to the Sea, poetry and……………..well, right now (late Thursday night) I can’t remember what else we might have done. Though I do remember that some habit training and heart issues were being challenged all day long!  =)

Wednesday: was a day full of dr apts, yard work, family time and addressing some heart issues and behaviour as a family.

Thursday:  At breakfast I made an actual written list of the 5 most important family rules. I really tried to work on being consistent with the boys all day today reminding them of the rules giving consequences if needed.  Oh, I wish I had been better at habit training when my boys were little =) Today we also covered Handwriting, Grammer and Spelling for my oldest with another pen pal letter, Reptiles Creation study, Creation walk, Natural History and Geography reading, Poetry, History: reading about Orville and Wilbur Wright, more Natural History reading from our favorite Creation (nature) magazine called Nature Friend and Art: working with soft pastels for the first times. The boys also went with their daddy to visit his aunt that is in the hospital.

Family Rules: 1. No violence towards anyone or anything 2. No Foul Mouth (excessive  ‘SMART’ comments, hurtful words, name calling, etc.) 3. NO disrespect  4. No whining and complaining 5 Obey the first time!

Friday: Busy day with a small Grocery store stop, home school group used curriculum sale & school

Saturday: baby shower for a friend, a graduation party for a friend, my sister and I will clean the church and I need to do some cleaning at my house (not sure that will happen =)

Sunday: Church………….thank you Lord!!!

** Reread Ricki Tikki Tavi by Kipling to the boys, they love this short story, we spent lots of time with are goats and chickens, especially the new chicks this week, on our creation walk  we found two places where there was evidence of a predator attacking and devouring his prey. One area had lots of black feathers and we even found the top and bottom of the beak (very cool), the other area had lots of Blue bird feather but this timw we didn’t find any body parts. My youngest found a Cardinals nest with thee eggs in low branches on a tree near our barn. The next day we saw the baby bird that had just hatched. They worked with the soft pastels again on Friday, they really love them My oldest started reading Charlotte’s Web o his own this week. **
