Isaish 58: 9-11 (A Blunt Message from God Cont’d)

Isaiah 58: 9-11

9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
“ If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
10 If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
11 The LORD will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

The God of glory will secure your passage.

Then when you pray, God will answer.
You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.’

A Full Life in the Emptiest of Places

9-12″If you get rid of unfair practices,
quit blaming victims,
quit gossiping about other people’s sins,
If you are generous with the hungry
and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out,
Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness,
your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.
I will always show you where to go.
I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places—
firm muscles, strong bones.
You’ll be like a well-watered garden,
a gurgling spring that never runs dry.

9 Then when you call, the Lord will answer.

‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.
“Remove the heavy yoke of oppression.
Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!
10 Feed the hungry,
and help those in trouble.
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.
11 The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.
What I see
There is a word that just pops out at me when I read these passages “IF”, so I looked it up. Why would I look up a word I have used since I was 3 (maybe). I like to be sure of what I am talking about =)

Websters On-Line Dictionary:
IF– 1 a : in the event that b : allowing that c : on the assumption that d : on condition that

In the Living translation they use Then instead of IF so lets look at that word.

Websters On-Line Dictionary:
Then– 1 : at that time 2 a : soon after that 3 a (1) : in that case

O.k. so my understanding has always been and still is, that in many cases when the word IF is used, that God is setting forth a condition. I believe there are many people through out the world, through out time that just do not like the idea of God having conditions. My thought is WHY shouldn’t He! He is the Lord, Savior, Healer, Provider, Redeemer, Heavenly Father and so much more. The one I want to really point out though is that He is the one and the only CREATOR. He alone gave us life!! He is the only reason we have a life to live and choices to make. He is the Creator, we are the creation, why do we think we should be able to have things our way instead of His. We do not know all the hidden parts of the past, the whys of the present, and we do not know five minutes into the future much less five years. It is our choice to live out the conditions of God but if we willingly choose to go against HIM than we should not have a problem facing the consequences of our choices.
So lets look at the conditions here:
1. We must CALL out to God (talk to Him, commune with Him, have a relationship)

2. We must turn from our evil ways (No IF and or but about it)

3. Take care of the Hungry and Oppressed (emotional, physical & spiritual)

So lets look at the consequences when we meet these conditions:

1. We will be that LIGHT in a dark place (the result of being a light means we are never in the dark and those around us are also exposed to this light)

2. God will always guide us (no explanation needed)

3. We will have an abundant life (all needs: emotional, physical & spiritual being met) in HIM
Do you see what is so incredible about this. When we make the choice to live by God’s conditions (His way, His will) We will have this amazing life in the here and now and that is not counting our truly amazing and everlasting eternal life!! The Word didn’t say life with out trials though, so don’t start thinking God is promising you a trouble free life. He did promise that no matter what, He will never leave us or forsake us and that no matter what in HIM we will have an abundant life. You know since we live this amazing life, what we have, who we are in Christ will flow over to those around us. Our God honoring lives will rock His kingdom! The lost will come to know HIM!!! The hungry (I’m not just talking physically) will be fed, the thirsty given something to drink, the naked clothed, the oppressed will be set free, you will have the peace, comfort, strength, grace (and so much more) that you need, you will never have to stumble in the dark and you will always have our mighty God’s hand holding you!! Now that is an absolutely beautiful life to experience!!
Oh, Lord thank you for the conditions and thank you for the amazing consequences that you have set forth for us in your Word (Is. 58)! I pray again for wisdom so that I will always choose you and your ways to live by!!
