Eastern Tent Caterpillar

Here is a Eastern Tent Caterpillar nest. The boys found it this evening and called me over to see it. We got to examine it up close, YEA! The silk the nest is made out of feels “wild” the boys said and I had to agree with them!! The bottom picture is where I tried to zoom in on a hole in the nest where 4 to 5 caterpillars were laying. We could also see about 10 more on the other side but I couldn’t get a good picture through the nest. This caterpillar does turn into a Moth just in case you were wondering. I also read that they leave the nest to go feed and they return to the nest until it’s time to permanently leave the nest =o) Below is a link where you can learn more about them!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malacosoma_americanum
